Dukoral is a vaccine given by mouth that protects against cholera. It is available as a liquid suspension in a bottle that is mixed with an effervescent powder dissolved in water before it is drunk. It contains four different inactivated strains of the bacterium Vibrio cholerae serotype O1, plus part of a toxin from one of these strains.
