Amoxiclav contains two active ingredients: amoxicillin, a penicillin-type antibiotic, and clavulanic acid, a beta-lactamase inhibitor. It is used for the short-term treatment of a wide range of infections caused by bacteria. It will not work against infections caused by viruses such as colds or flu.
