Levofloxacin is a prescription antibiotic used to treat different types of bacterial infections. It belongs to a group of antibiotics called fluoroquinolones. It is usually only used for bacterial infections that cannot be treated with safer antibiotics, because fluoroquinolones can cause serious or disabling side effects. It does not treat viral infections such as the flu or a common cold.
