Metronidazole is an antibiotic used to treat certain infections caused by bacteria and parasites (protozoans). It works against infections such as those of the vagina, stomach, liver, skin, joints, brain and spinal cord, lungs, heart, or bloodstream. It does not treat viral infections such as a cold or flu.
